Sunday Slim - Take Me Back - The Selekta Remixes

Sunday Slim is a Northern California blues musician who has the ability to not only play a bad ass harmonica, but also perform and build his songs live, using a Boss 505 loop station. He beatboxes all the drums, percussion, bass, and effects while he sings, plays his harmonica, and manipulates his live loops, building up some serious FUNK in his own style of BLUES.

This unique sound just had to have the Selekta remix treatment. We brought in some of our favs and some new folks to make the project even more exciting!

Rusty Belicek from All Good Funk Alliance brought together his friends Isaac Freed (*bass) and Paul LLoyd (banjo!) to become Rockmaster and the Boys. Rockmaster and the Boy’s remix of ‘Take Me Back’ is reminiscent of that Beastie and Dust Brothers era...truly an original sound like nothing you’ve heard before...and that banjo though!

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels aka DRS is our old friend, Simon Apex and his wife, Brittney, and their friend Paul Arnold. Simon,Britt, and Paul not only brought a truly electronica mix to the table, but were able to make it feel like you are attending a spiritual gathering where BLUES and BEATS are what make up the sermon to feed those needy souls!

We had to invite our brother Scottie Soul in on this too. His version of ‘Take Me Back’ is a nasty, deep, and bassy ride into some serious FUNK. You might want to make sure you have your blunt ready before you hit play on this one!

New to Selekta is StickHouse Recordings owner and studio engineer, Brian Steckler. Brian is who worked with Slim on engineering and recording the original of ‘Take Me Back’ upon its single release in 2019. He revisited the session and in his newest version, produced an awesome mix of breaks, funky drums, and a more modern style radio edit. Super beefy and catchy, the Stickmix will quickly become a favorite of many.

OG producer, DJ EFX, came at it all from a different angle than the bangin and groovy House, 4 on the floor type mixes he’s made in the past. DJ EFX said when he heard Slim’s beat box, he had to write some drums to double time it and give it the ULTRA FUNK UNDERGROUND sound! Techno sounds from the future, drum patterns that force your head to nod, all keeping that BLUES harmonica rockin over the top. UltraFutureFunk is actually more like it!

Roundin up the remixes, DJ Dennis keeps it dubby and bouncy with his remix, droppin a hefty House and Disco feel, but focusing on the power of Slim’s BLUES Harmonica skills.
